FAQ

What is the hourly fee?

My standard rate for a 50-minute individual session is $180 and for a 60-minute couples therapy is $220. I am sometimes able to provide a fee reduction on a case-by-case scenario.

I request payment at the end of each session and accept cash, check, or credit card. Please let me know during our first meeting in regards to a fee reduction.

Do you accept insurance?
I do not participate in any insurance plans. I am happy to provide you with a superbill to present to your insurance company for out-of-network services.
How do I make an appointment?

The best way to reach me is through email at kristina.nakamura@gmail.com.

Can I cancel an appointment? Do you have a cancellation policy?

I observe a 24-hour cancellation policy. Within 24 hours’ notice, you may reschedule your appointment for a later date. With less than 24 hours’ notice, you will be charged for the canceled or missed session.

This includes being a sick or personal emergency.

With what age range do you work?
My specialty age range is adolescents through older adults.
What can I expect in the first session?
In our first session, you’ll get to know me, and I’ll get to know you. I will ask you a couple of questions exploring what’s bringing you into therapy and your counseling goals. Because each person has different concerns that lead them to therapy, I focus on tailoring my therapeutic approach to your specific needs.
How long will I be in therapy?
Everyone’s circumstances are unique to them. The length of time counseling can take to allow you to accomplish your goals depends on your desire for personal development, your commitment, and the factors that are driving you to seek counseling in the first place.
Who benefits from therapy?
We all go through challenging times in our lives, even young children. The short answer is anyone can benefit from therapy.
Aren’t people going to think that I am weak for seeking therapy?
Not at all. People who ask for help know when they need it and are courageous enough to reach out. Everyone needs help now and then. In our work together, I’ll help you explore and identify your strengths and implement them to reduce the influence of the problems you are facing.
Why shouldn’t I take medication rather than therapy? Can you prescribe medication?
Medication can be effective, but it alone cannot solve all issues. Sometimes, medication is needed in conjunction with counseling. Our work together is designed to explore and unpack the problems you are experiencing and expand on the strengths that can help you accomplish your personal goals.
What if your approach is not for me?
My main goal is for you to get what you need. It’s okay if you feel that I’m not the right fit for you. I’ll support you in finding a referral source that better suits your needs.
